Medication-Assisted Treatment
Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is an effective treatment approach that combines medication and behavioral therapy to treat substance use disorders. Medications taken in MAT are evidenced-based, clinically driven and tailored to meet each client’s needs. Reach for Recovery’s MAT program provides individuals with opioid addictions FDA approved medications, in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies, to provide a patient-centered approach to the treatment of opioid addiction.
What are the benefits of Medication-assisted Treatment?
MAT has been shown to:
- Improve client survival
- Increase retention in treatment
- Decrease illicit opiate use and other criminal activity among people with substance use disorders
- Increase client’s ability to gain and maintain employment
- Improve birth outcomes among women who have substance use disorders and are pregnant
What is the effect of these medications?
These medications give a person who is addicted to opiates an opportunity to regain a normal state of mind without experiencing the drug induced highs and lows. Medication can also reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Medication-assisted treatment can give a person a chance to focus on lifestyle changes that lead back to healthy living.
